- Empty element - its definition, parts and examples thereof
- Non-empty element - its definition, parts and examples thereof
- The five syntax rules of XHTML markup and examples of each
- The four web design guidelines and examples of each
- Div element - use and construction
- CSS - methods of implementation and rules, selectors, declaration, property and value, including id's, classes, elements, and inheritance
- Anchor, image, div and list elements with required and suggested attributes and values.
- Path types: relative and absolute with examples of each
- Basic usability considerations - examples of usable design
- The planning process and key considerations of it
- How prototyping (sketching) is used in the planning process and why
- How modularization is implemented in site development and why
- How independent learning affects the web designer/developer, including benefits and pitfalls
- Web standards - where they come from and how they impact web design and development
- Principles of Design: Proximity, Alignment, Repetition and Contrast - Explain each, provide examples of websites that clearly implement these. Define and be able to provide simple diagrams of each.
